If you're talking priestess abilities, then obviously Kikyo. She's been trained for it.
But if you're talking personalities...they both have their good traits and their bad. They're two different people, thus making it impossible to judge one better than the other. Kikyo, in many ways, can be just as immature as Kagome.

Kikyou of course. She was obviously trained for it for many more years and has much more experience and control over her abilities than Kagome. She's sorta to Kagome what Sesshoumaru is to Inuyasha, right down to the calm powerful-aura-type thing to the '...' to the '*actually talks a lot more*'. She has a good amount more tricks up her sleeve (knows how do to more than just hama no ya and purifying), and better aim with arrows it seems. Due to Kagome's very small amount of practice its sorta impressive how far she's come though (although I imagine being in life-threatining danger 98% of the time probaly helps).

Very well said! Kikyou was actually trained to be a miko...if only Kagome could get some help/training in that area (I'd enjoy it very much if she would somehow shake the "damsel in distress" scenario someday...I have a dream!!!). As to the question, I'd say Kikyou is THE miko (as in training, priestess/healing activities, and dress code *wink wink*), though Kagome has a good start.

Mweh, Kagome is not all that bad as a miko, considering she didn't really have much time to practice her abilities as an archer and training...though her grandfather is a priest, which leads me to think that, if she had a bit more of interest in becoming a miko and learning about demons and stuff, she could've done it with his help.
Anyway, I like both, Kagome and Kikyou, though Kikyou is definitely the better miko. As for C. Serenity's comment on Kikyou's immaturity, well, I have to disagree with that. I'm not saying Kagome is in an easy positing, having to time-travel quite often and fighting a bunch of youkai and whatnot, but considering what Kikyou's been through in her life and death, she had it way tougher for her than Kagome ever did, so I do thihk she's entitled to act the way she does sometimes.

True, I've never really thought of Kikyou as immature. She can be angry and jealous, but this applies to the re-animated Kikyou with only part of her soul. Kagome can appear immature sometimes (such as getting angry at Inu and "sitting" him multiple times)but when someone's angry they usually don't think "oops, I'm overdoing this." Moreover, if Kagome didn't get jealous and "osuwari" Inu into some major pain there'd be less comic relief. Thus, I think Kagome is more prone to appearing immature (in surface level) but both characters usually try to do the right thing and there's no accounting for what emotions make ppl do, eh? It's hard to be "mature" 24/7, but Kikyou and Kagome do an ok job as far as anime characters go.

I have got to say the better miko title will always and forever belong to Kikyo hands down. And Kikyo is like one of the most strongest characters on the show cuz of her training to become a priestess. And besides even if Kagome did get her some training and was able to protect herself more instead of having to rely on Inuyasha to save her all the time, Kikyo would still be the better miko cuz Kikyo probably has to fight demons all the time with all the wandering she does on the show so of course her spiritual powers would grow as well as her accuracy with her arrows and bow.

Kagome's Grandfather isn't much of a priest though and consedering the fact that Kagome got her powers from Kikyou some mysterious way her grandpa wouldn't have been able to help her either as he would no nothing about it or that she had those abilities
