I've been looking at swords a lot on the internet lately and I think Sesshomaru's Tokijin is of Chinese Design! It sound probable because Sessh is the ruler of the western part of Japan. And just where is China? Right over the the small stretch of ocean!

Really? That's interesting. Though I have seen many other japanese anime/movies where they had similar sword design as Sesshoumaru's. But perhaps it could have originated from China. ^^

It could be a Chinese-inspired Japanese design...They are relatively close neighbors and China did have influence (such as writing/kanji and spreading Buddhism) but the Japanese were pretty proud of their ability to assimilate what they liked of other cultures while fitting it to suit their need and thus creating something "uniquely Japanese" (acc. to my Japanese history teacher). Just an idea, tho, sorry for the ramble ^^;;

The red flower markings on his kimono look familiar to me. Actually I saw the same markings on an Egyptian disigned ball. Strange. But yes. Me agree about the Japanese/Chinese thing. ^_^

Yes it is a chinese design...most chinese swords are huge on the bottom and do not have sheaths 'tis a valid point ^_^ My sword-loving friend stated however that "changing a sword's design makes it totally different regardless of what it resembled. The sword will handle completely differently, and Sesshoumaru never wields Toukijin like a Tai Chi sword." Also, the sword was "made" in Japan...so thus it may be Chinese-influenced but is technically Japanese. These are just ideas tho, and because Anime generally exists separately from the "rules" and complete historical accuracy there may not be one set answer...
