I've heard somewhere that Kikyou is Midoriko's reincarnation... When I first saw it, I thought "Yeah right!" but then I started thinking about it some more and it would kind of make sense. They both kinda had the same fate since they both fell in love, and the baddies took an advantage on that, and they're both really prettyful! ^___^

No, i don't think so... When the Shikon no Tama came out, it was given to the demon exterminators to protect for over 100 years THEN to Kikyou...

I dunno... It's just a rumor anyway... kinda like the Ultimecia is a future Rinoa. It has a lot of hints and clues but it isn't exact. Though for some reason I support the theory all the way! ^.^

I also thought Midoriko was still fighting the youkai in her heart/shikon no tama, but if Kikyou was Midoriko's reincarnation it could explain how she's so in-tune with it (like being able to make 2 shards combine into one--though she is an awesome miko which would also explain that @_@ )...interesting theory!

Well, the whole Midoriko issue is better explained on the spring special episode, "A Fateful Love Song From Before We Met". Sadly, I only own a raw version of that eppie, so I couldn't understand much of what they said... Hopefully I'll get a hold of the subbed version soon! :D

I'm not THAT far...I'm barely past 'The Woman who Loved Sesshoumaru' saga...I've wondered that too. Midoriko would be lucky. Unlike poor Kikyou, she has a cool reincarnation! ^_^

hmm. well, I haven't been able to get my ep 147-148 working on my windows media player... that'd be so cool if kikyou really was a reincarnation of midoriko!! after all, both are my fav. inuyasha characters!

Haven't seen any of the Midoriko eps aside from that one she's first seen in...But...I'm pretty much 100% sure Kikyou is not her reincarnation.
Why?
Simple. As you all have stated a couple of times above, Midoriko's soul still wages war against the foul youkai within the Shikon no Tama. A soul must be present for a reincarnation to occur. That's why Kikyou can't exist in the living realm without sucking souls from others, because Kagome has at least part of her soul.

p.s. Ultimecia COULD be Rinoa (seen this theory before and kinda support it), but it's highly unlikely and any and all evidence is most likely coincidental.

Kikyou is most likely not Midoriko's reincarnation. In eppies 147-148, we can see that Midoriko's death and the birth of Shikon no Tama is in the same timeline as that of when Kikyou is entrusted with the jewel. Plus, there's also the thought that her soul is still fighting those youkais inside the Tama... So unless that is not true and Midoriko's soul was quick enough as to reincarnate in a matter of days, Kikyou is not her reincarnation. Just my opinion, anyway o.o;

hmmmm.. I finally watched the special. I always assumed that the shikon no tama was very old and that the event where Midoriko fights off the demon happened like, a thousand years ago. But I agree now, that Kikyou is not a reincarnation of Midoriko. But I can't help but see how strongly related they both seem to be (even though technically, they're not, as much as we know so far).
