I don't know about that, Rin. Like Ragas said, she does have backbone, but she is also overly emotional as well. Also, I believe she's supposed to sort of be like that, since she's supposed to be an average teenage girl at the start of the series. Though she does sorta cry too much for my taste...of course, the show has gone on for so long, that I must agree: Takahashi-sama maybe should develop her powers. I once read this really good Inu/Kag fic by an author called Striking Falcon (I later discovered she was a Sess/Kago shipper, but I still respect her) who developed Kagome, and eventually, she became a stronger, more likable character. She was flamed for it too, but she just shook it off. Another trait that I admire about that writer.

I like Kagome...Sure, she's got nothing on Kikyou when it comes to sheer mystique and power, but she's not all that bad. I don't deny that I'd probably cry/be scared all the time too, if I were in her position. I mean, could you ever really get used to traveling around in feudal Japan and fighting DEMONS who would only have to lift a finger to decapitate you? I think it's a crying shame Takahashi has let her drag on powerlessly for as long as she has, but what're we gonna' do?

Kagome's hardly a sissy or psychologically messed up. Think about what position she's in - only 15, but she's out there every day risking her life to save the world with the added stress of a very painful romance. Kagome's not exactly what I'd call uncontrolled. If she truly lacked that, than she would have left the Sengoku Jidai to its own defenses a long time ago due to her own emotional problems. Her decision to overlook her difficulties with her feelings for Inuyasha shows a strength of character and a deep compassion for others, which implies at least a modicum of self control.
Otherwise, yes, she does have flies, but she's young and inexperienced. It's bound to happen. Kikyo may seem more mature at times, but she has plenty of flaws and immaturities as well. Keep in mind that she was not only three years older than Kagome, but she grew up in a society where adulthood was reached much earlier. Otherwise, she was hardly in better shape pscyhologically. She was introverted, independent, and fairly emotionally detached.
Neither girl is better than the other. It's just a matter of their experiences.

*sighs* That should be "flies" not flaws. *goes off to register so she can edit posts*

there is one thing that i want to know about Kagome. It's happened a few times in the show and 1st movie, a demon knowing one of Inuyasha's worst fears (getting killed again like he did with Kikyo) takes over Kagome's body and uses her to shoot at Inuyasha like Kikyo did. But why is it that even though her body is being controlled she always has the ability to speak? I mean if her body is being controlled, how does she get her mouth (part of being controlled body) to tell Inuyasha to run? Of course he never listens but still...

I think that was simply a matter where Tsubake took over Kagome's body but not her soul/mind. Kagome could see what she was doing - she just couldn't stop it. It's like being paralyzed. You can see the limbs, you can will them to move, but they won't.

It's really irratating when that happens. Scary too.

In other words, in her own mind she is paralyzed (even though her body is moving because it's being controlled) because she can't control her limbs but she can still talk ans stuff? o.o

As much of a diehard Kikyou fan as I am, I have nothing against Kagome, even though I -did- hate her at first. Now I respect and even hope she'll have a happy ending, though sometimes I think that won't be happening... x.x; She still needs a lot of character development, though, especially when compared to other characters, most of which have changed quite a bit throughout the story.

I agree with you 100%, Chao. I've never particularly disliked Kagome. In fact, I've always rather enjoyed her character. Though like I said two posts above yours, they really could expand upon it more.

Oh, most definitely, but character development has always been a crutch in this series, especially as of late. There's very little individual development at all in the manga as of late - it's almost stagnating, to be honest.
Though one thing I did wish Takahashi had done is do more with Kagome's powers. Girl seems smart enough - why didn't she figure out that perhaps mastering her powers would help everyone in the long run?

There lives seem rather hectic. Especially as of late. They have to think on the moment. Maybe that's why she never tried. Or maybe I'm just spouting drivil. Either one.
