Sesshoumaru could not help himself; he glanced down at her, allowing a fond smile to breeze across his lips at her affection. So maybe, there was still that chance after all...He felt like positively beaming, but such was not his nature and the smile slid off his face as quickly as it had appeared and his face resumed its stony mask.

"We're almost there..." Came her smooth voice as her earth-brown eyes captured the first images of a few wooden huts from afar. "I wonder how the villagers will react when they see us together..."

He tensed, on the verge of snarling. "They'll mind their own damn business, that's what they'll do."

A heavy sigh escaped her lips as she nodded in a gloomy fashion. "They'd never understand... But whatever it is they might do or say about us..." Kikyou paused in mid-step and forced his gaze to meet hers. "...please, promise me you won't harm any of them, alright?"

He looked like a pouting child who had just been scolded for decapitating their expensive dollies. "On one condition," He reluctantly decided. "They may say what rude things they wish about me. However, dare they open their filthy mouths to slander you..." The air was chilly with the sinister threat.

She sighed once more, though it was closely followed by a faint smile. "I suppose that's the best I can get from you, is it not?"

He stared defiantly at her. "That's correct."

"Well, then..." She nodded and glanced upwards, sparing him a kind smile. "Deal?"

He eyed her for a moment before nodding, with a grunt. "Deal."

Kikyou chuckled softly at his reaction and placed a feather-light kiss on his cheek. "Thank you." She smiled and gently squeezed his hand, urging him to resume their stroll.

He took her actions in stride, and compelled by her movements, shuffled forward himself, his large hand closing to warmly cover her lithe, delicate one once more.

A few more steps were taken, and the twosome soon reached the village. Kikyou took a pause and browsed around, trying to figure where to go. Her ears picked on the pleasant sound of a child's laughter, closely followed by cheerful giggles.
"Kikyou-sama!" An enthusiastic girl with short, raven hair came out of the bushes and ran to the miko, dragging her sister along. "You're back!"
"Keiko, Hanako." A kind smile graced the priestess's features as she knelt down and stroked the two sibling's hair. "It's good to see you two again."
"Hai!" Hanako nodded, her long, brown locks whipping the air with her motion. "We missed Kikyou-sama a lot!!"
"Oooh... who's your friend, Kikyou-sama??" Keiko tugged at Sesshoumaru's baggy pants, cranning her neck up so she could get a better glimpse of his face. "He's tall...o.o;"

He stared down momentarily at the child before turning his head, suddenly finding one of the silly ningen houses quite interesting. His cheeks felt as if they were burning, even if they weren't the customary red.

Kikyou suppressed a chuckle at her beloved's reaction. "His name is Sesshoumaru, and he is the lord of the Western Lands."
"Ooooh, so he's a prince?!?!" Hanako squealed, chocolate eyes sparkling. "Kikyou-sama knows a real prince??"
"You could say that..." The miko could feel a few beads of sweat running down her temples, her gentle smile lingering on her lips.
"Wow!" The dark haired girl hopped from Kikyou to Sesshoumaru and clung to his free pant leg after a quick bow. "What is it like to be a prince?"
"Do you have a lot of servants??" Keiko tugged at his other leg, eyes equally sparkly.
"Do you have your own castle??"
"How can we go to the Western Lands??"
"Can we go to the Western Lands?"
"Why do you have funny ears?"
"How did you meet Kikyou-sama??"
"Do you like Kikyou-sama??"
"Hey, can you speak at all???"
[Tahahaha...I just found a new way to torture Sesshie! XDDDD!!]

Sesshoumaru's eyes fluttered closed momentarily, perhaps to disguise the dark look that formed in them. After a moment, he opened them, staring down at the children. "It's tiresome," He rumbled, "And I have but one servant," And that's all he chose to answer.
