He took his first step into the foreboding corridors of Midoriko City's Shikon University for the first time in years. He being the aristocratically, slender-bodied Senshi Sesshoumaru, returning from studying abroad for nearly five years.
It had been far too long since he had ghosted down these halls, in all his bookish yet handsome good-looks. Neatly kept tresses of an unusual color, a wispy silver, were tosses over his shoulder, perfectly accentuated by glowing golden orbs. Jutted ivories portruded from tightly coiled lips, flashing the rows of doors ahead of him a rather morose smile.
Indeed, his last year of college would be spent here in this very university, in which he had started out. From the very beginning, he had a potent rival; the stunningly beautiful Higurashi Kikyou, whom he had met quite some time ago, in highschool...About their sophmore year. In any case, his time here had been lively and high-spirited, but it had been lacking something very important. So, he had packed up and left mysteriously one day, with no word to anyone but his professors. Most everyone had assumed he'd dropped off the face of the earth, or even died, by the expressions he received as he had strolled the campus earlier.
But not was not the time for reminiscing, no matter how pleasant that was; he was due to his creative writing class in just a few moments, and he dared not to be late for his first day. First impressions were everything, as he always said.
Luckily though, he made it in time, sliding almost stealthily into a seat just as the professor began to clear his throat. "My name is JiJi Myouga, though of course, you all shall adress me as Myouga-sensei. To start off the year, before I launch into that old course explanation deal, is there any questions you all would like to ask me?"
Hmm...Brisk, this Myouga was. Sesshoumaru liked that. One of the prime reasons he had left Shikon Universities was the professors; they had never seemed quite up to par. But this queer old man, he seemed different. Sesshoumaru knew, that in this class at least, he was in for a rather interesting year.

Baka! Atashi wa baka desu!
A rushed, feminine figure strides up the stairs leading to the long, empty corridors of Shikon University as she mentally curses herself for being late on the very first day of her senior year.
In the eyes on most of her classmates, Higurashi Kikyou was the model student: hardworking, intelligent and always willing to help anyone should they have trouble in school. How she managed to be such a high-regarded student and not look like a nerd remained a mystery, though. Today, however, she's been acting little like herself. Waking up late, missing part of her classes and most likely getting the professor pretty mad...
Baka Kagome... She's tainted me with her bad habits!
She finally reaches her classroom and takes a small piece of paper, double-checking her school schedule. "Creative writing... Well, at least I'm at the right place." She tucks the paper back into her pocket and peeks inside the classroom by the little glass window on the wodden door, cursing silently the professor for being so ponctual.
Kikyou waits uneasily for a good opportunity to sneak into the class and silently make her way to the very last row of desks where she would take her seat and, hopefully, the chubby little professor wouldn't notice her late arrival. Finally, when he gives his back to the rest of the class, she pushes the doorhandle down and tip-toes her way inside the room, gesturing at her friends not to turn her in.
"Miss Higurashi, it's so nice of you to finally join us." - Myouga-sensei adds in an ironic tone, still writing something on the board.
Oh, no... I'm in for it now...

A majority of the class burst into snide little snickers at this, but Sesshoumaru froze. Higurashi...? He whirled around in his seat to look; indeed, it was Kikyou.
Inwardly cursing his horrid luck, he took a moment to drink in the sight of her; after all, one was bound to stare after such a long time. He found that he was not to the only one with his eyes fixated on her, however. Several other young men were giving her the appraising eye, one going as far as to wink.
For some reason, Sesshoumaru found this all rather intolerable. As he had once found himself crushing on her, he somehow thought it his duty, even after all his time away, to stand up for her, though he had no idea where these feelings were coming from, since he had long since gotten over her. His entire five years had been filled with frivelous relationships, though none of them had ever lasted over a few days. All the women had just wanted him for his good looks, money, or smarts. They were just using him. He just figured he was one of those types who would never be able to find true love, and though this bothered him deep down, it didn't at the very same time.
Finally, realizing he was openly gaping, he swiftly turned back around in his seat, hoping no one had really noticed what, or rather who, he had been looking at. He tried to focus on what Myouga-sensei was writing on the board, but his thoughts kept drifting back to her. Amusedly, he realized, this feeling was almost like some kind of bizarre obsession, though he knew it to not be the case. He would most likely be feeling this way with pretty much everyone he had known way back when.
In any case, he finally managed to buckle down and begin copying down the course criteria that Myouga-sensei began to explain to them. Perhaps he could have a word with her after class, just for old time's sake...

Blushing furiously at that embarrassing situation, the young woman proceeds to apologize to Myouga-sensei for her lack of ponctuality, promising him that little event would not happen again.
Kikyou casts a pair of narrow, menacing eyes upon one of her fellow classmates as he winks teasingly at her. Heh.Men were such a waste of time... They would only play with you, fool you with soft words and then break your heart, just like Kikyou knew oh-so-well. The awful feeling of being ditched, betrayed...
Ack, no. She shrugs those upsetting thoughts off and heads to her desk, only to stumble her eyes upon a very familiar, silver-haired man, taking notes right next her seat. The very same one she had met a few years ago, back in her highschool days. The very same one who had been her first serious crush...
Is this some kind of conspiracy...?
Taking one deep breath, she drops her books over her desk and takes a seat, trying to come up with ways not to let that little mishap affect her behavior. At first, she considers just completely ignoring his presence around, but realizes it would be very rude of her to do so. After a couple more minutes of pondering, she votes for merely sparing him a welcoming, yet shy smile, wondering if he even remembered who she was.

He had been 'inconspicuously' watching her out of the corner of his eye since the moment she sat down, so of course, he caught her weak but very present smile. Inwardly, he snorted. Bah. She probably didn't even remember him. But, even for his pompous self, it would be rude not to return the gesture, so he silently responded with his own serious smile and brisk nod in her direction, before returning to copying the board.
Oh, fate was cruel indeed.

Kikyou feels her face het flustered for a moment, then she abruptly turns to the board, taking as many notes as she could in order to try and wash Sesshoumaru's expression off her mind.
That smile... it was still so... dammit!
A few moments pass, and Myouga-sensei turns to glance at his students, giving each of them an intriguing look, to say the least. He cleans his throat quietly and restarts, announcing a brief assignment due on next week, and much to Kikyou's dismay, it should be done in pairs. As if that had not been enough, the chubby calls out her name, pointing at her new parter afterwards.
'You've gotta be kidding me...' -she thinks, as she raises her eyebrow at the chosen classmate.

Sesshoumaru held an equal expression on his face.
Fate was more than cruel. It was downright vengeful.
Giving his shoulders a somber little shrug, he turned his head sideways to face her, a few defiant strands of silver sweeping across his desktop as he did so. "Guess we're partners, huh, Kikyou?"
Oops. He hadn't planned on letting it slip he knew her so soon. He had hoped to get through a few weeks, hell, the whole year, without her recognizing him. But, inwardly rolling his eyes, he figured she at least remembered the unusual hair and eyes. Bah.
(I'm improvising and say he called out last names here.)

For one brief moment, Kikyou finds herself too busy to reply to that comment, shooting an angry, flaming glare at Myouga-sensei for doing such a thing. She mentally pictures a thousand sharp needles showering over the little old man, then takes one deep breath, trying to regain her cool expression.
Quite soon, however, she turns to look at Sesshoumaru as realization hits her. Had he just called her by her name? So he did remember her after all... What an interesting and irritating thought that was. Smirking to herself, she lowers her head and writes something on her notebook, replying in a whisper. "I suppose so, Sesshoumaru."

He unknowingly mimicked her smirk, though that was his most common facial expression. So she did remember... He found himself sniffing indignantly at the topic and nature of their assignment. "How very curious..."

"Myths and legends from the Japanese Sengoku Jidai..."
Kikyou reads out loud the topic Myouga-sensei writes on the board, flipping through the pages of her perfectly organized notebook. When she finally seems to have found what she was looking for, she turns to her partner and places a piece of paper on his desk.
"I think these books here have most of what we need for this assignment, but we might have to do some extra-searching on the library later."
Surprised at how casual and spontaneous she had just sounded, she quirks a brow and sweatdrops at that situation.

"Perhaps," he attempted to sound as casual as she, "It would benefit our project if I were to bring in some of my own research materials from home? My father left me quite an exquisite collection of texts on such a topic. But yes, I do beleive it would not be too mcuh trouble to schedule a date to meet at the library for further book browsing, should we so need the time,"
Unfortunately, his attempt at casualness utterly failed. He found it surprisingly hard to supress his formal yet natural (to him, at least) manner of speech. He rather hope she would not find him too much, as he really could not control it.

Kikyou unsuccessfully tries to hold back a giggle, placing both hands over her lips. After being apart from his formalities for around five years, she was bound to find them rather amusing, to say the least, especially when all she was used to hear from her fellow classmates was slang and other rude ways of speaking. Not willing to be rude herself, she takes a deep breath and recomposes, speaking as seriously as she could. "Yes, I believe your research material would be really useful, but the library also has an interesting variety of books and encyclopedias we can use..."

"Indeed," came his simple, initial response, before he chose to further expand on it. "Would it agreeable if I brought those texts with me, to the actual library itself? That would quite comfortably accomodate both of us, methinks,"
